Eight people put up $35,000 to start the project of building the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in April 1961. They were Dr. Charles Huntley, Frank Vierhus, Elmer Bornholdt, Dr. Norman West, Manning Walker, Otto Stoltenberg, Mrs. Phyllis Fiscus, and Maurice VanNostrand. The final cost was $185,000. It was built by the A. C. Dohrmann Construction Company of Sioux City. The home's office opened November 2, 1961 and open house was November 6. Eighteen people signed up for admittance.
